题目: Application-specific Data Mining in Internet of Things (IoT)

Today, every object/thing in the world whether it is sensor, equipment or other devices has become smart, i.e., they can sense the events, make wise decisions and control the environment conditions. The “smart” objects concept referred to Internet of Things (IoT) that automate the objects/things. IoT produces and captures a large amount of data that is often distributed, heterogeneous and very complex. To analyze such data to identify unknown patterns and to make decision in order to make the objects in IoT smarter, more effective, application-specific data mining technologies are required so that IoT becomes more efficient and useful. Basic data mining algorithms and technologies are not sufficient and efficient for IoT framework. In this talk, we will first review the state-of-art data mining technologies. Then, we will discuss some application-specific data mining techniques which we have applied and are applying to some real-world IoT Network applications. These include distributed and parallel data mining, privacy-preserving in data mining, event-sensitive data mining, group-wise data mining, trustworthy data mining, and so on. At the end, we will offer a set potential research issues in Data Mining in IoT.
Md Zakirul Alam Bhuiyan, PhD, is currently an Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the Fordham University, NY, USA, the Founding Director of Fordham Dependable and Secure System Lab (DependSys). Earlier, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Temple University. His research focuses on dependability, cyber security, big data, and cyber physical systems. He has over 120 papers published in prestigious venues, including top tier IEEE/ACM transactions/magazines. He has served as a lead guest/associate editor for IEEE TBD, ACM TCPS, INS, FGCS, IEEE IoT journal, Cluster Computing, TJCA, and so on. He has also served as an organizer, general chair, program chair, workshop chair, and TPC member of various international conferences, including IEEE INFOCOM. He has received the IEEE TCSC Award for Early Career Research Excellence (2016-2017) and the IEEE Outstanding Leadership Awards (2016, 2017) and IEEE Service Award (2017). He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM.
